The head of the Anti-Illegal Migration Authority in Benghazi, Salah Al-Khafifi, has issued new directives to intensify efforts against human trafficking and migrant smuggling. His instructions were given during a high-level meeting with directors from the agency’s departments.
Al-Khafifi ordered the Operations Department and the Office of Investigation and Arrest to begin implementing a comprehensive security plan. The initiative aims to track down human traffickers and smugglers operating in and around Benghazi. The strategy will also focus on gathering intelligence on smuggling networks.
As part of the plan, Al-Khafifi stressed the importance of activating the central security room and strengthening the authority’s communications system. He called for full integration between the agency’s branches and offices across eastern Libya to ensure coordinated action.
Addressing logistical needs, Al-Khafifi urged a swift response to fill existing gaps and supply the necessary vehicles and equipment. He said these measures are vital to ensure the success of the new security strategy.
He also highlighted the importance of continuing evacuation campaigns in residential areas. These operations target foreigners living in rented homes illegally. Al-Khafifi instructed officials to refer landlords who violate rental regulations to the proper legal authorities.
In addition, the authority’s head called for faster deportation of irregular migrants who have received official removal orders. This includes migrants with medical conditions. Al-Khafifi stressed the need to handle deportations in accordance with Libyan law and international standards.
The new measures reflect growing concerns in eastern Libya over rising migration and smuggling activities. Benghazi remains a major transit point for migrants heading towards Europe, often at the hands of dangerous trafficking networks.
