On Friday, A US delegation stressed with Libyan officials the need for a political solution over the Sirte and al-Jufra issue, in addition to the resumption of oil production.

In a statement, the US Embassy in Libya said that a US delegation, led by Miguel Correa, the National Security Council Senior Director for the Middle East and North Africa, and Richard Norland, the US Ambassador to Libya, held virtual discussions with Libyan officials to “advance concrete, urgent steps to find a demilitarised solution for Sirte and al-Jufra, and reopen Libya’s oil sector with full transparency.”

“In separate discussions with National Security Advisor Taj al-Din al-Rezagi and Libyan Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Yousef al-Agouri, Major General Correa and Ambassador Norland underscored the need for a Libyan-led process to reclaim the country’s sovereignty and eject foreign forces,” the statement added.

The Embassy also stressed that the United States will continue to actively engage a range of Libyan leaders who are ready to reject harmful foreign interference, de-escalate and come together to realise a peaceful solution that benefits all Libyans.
