The Energy and Natural Resources Committee of Libya’s House of Representatives has strongly criticized the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU), led by Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, accusing it of politicizing the country’s energy file for political survival.
In a statement published by the Parliament’s spokesperson on Facebook, the committee denounced what it described as “futile attempts” by the Dbaiba government to use Libya’s energy sector as a bargaining tool to maintain its position as a de facto authority in Tripoli. It warned that these actions undermine the independence of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), the entity with sole authority over the country’s energy resources.
The committee said it had monitored the outgoing government’s delegation visit to Washington, where they reportedly held meetings with officials from the U.S. State Department. According to the statement, the Dbaiba government sought to promote its alleged achievements, including claims of increasing oil production rates and organizing an upcoming Gas Forum in Tripoli in November 2025, as well as the Libya Energy Summit scheduled for January 2026.
Furthermore, the committee accused the Dbaiba administration of deliberately obstructing elections through “false pretexts,” asserting that holding elections is the only path toward ending Libya’s political division and unifying the executive authority.
The Parliament also reminded international stakeholders and partners of its earlier decision to withdraw confidence from the Dbaiba government, reiterating its call for genuine progress toward national elections and institutional legitimacy.
