The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), Al-Taher Al-Baour, received the British Ambassador to Libya at the ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and boost cooperation across political and economic sectors.

During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing ties between Libya and the United Kingdom, with a focus on supporting ongoing efforts led by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to bring about lasting stability.

Discussions also covered the importance of moving forward with the political process in Libya, including the preparation for inclusive elections and the promotion of long-term peace and development across the country.

The British ambassador reiterated the United Kingdom’s full support for the UN-led political roadmap and efforts to unify Libyan institutions. He also reaffirmed London’s commitment to assisting Libya in restoring security and advancing democratic governance.

For his part, Minister Al-Baour praised the UK’s active role in promoting stability and development in Libya. He expressed appreciation for British support to international initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive political settlement.

This high-level diplomatic engagement is part of a broader strategy by the GNU to foster international partnerships and attract support for Libya’s fragile transition. Strengthening foreign relations is seen as key to helping Libya overcome its political impasse and pave the way towards elections.

The meeting comes amid renewed international focus on facilitating a unified Libyan government capable of delivering services, ensuring security, and implementing economic reforms.
