Giuseppe Buccino, the Italian Ambassador to Libya, has submitted a new proposal to the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA). This is regarding the immigration memorandum between the two countries.

A new proposal for the MoU regarding cooperation in development, illegal immigration, human trafficking, smuggling, as well as strengthening border security was finalised and submitted to GNA authorities.

This came during the Italian Ambassador’s meeting with the GNA’s Foreign Minister, Mohamed Siala. The two discussed strengthening cooperation over the illegal immigration crisis.

The draft of the new memorandum was the subject of a ministerial consultation held in Rome, during the first negotiation session of the joint Italy-Libya committee, on the 2nd of July.
