The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) held a joint meeting on Tuesday with the “6+6 Committee” — a body formed by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State — to explore amendments to Libya’s constitutional and legal electoral framework and enhance its practical feasibility.

The meeting was part of a broader series of consultations supported by the UN Mission, aimed at building consensus around political arrangements for Libya’s next phase, according to a post on UNSMIL’s official Facebook page.

UN Special Representative Hanna Serwaa Tetteh emphasized the importance of these discussions in supporting “Libyan ownership of the political process”, noting that the outcomes will directly contribute to shaping the roadmap that UNSMIL plans to present to the UN Security Council soon.

The joint committee is expected to reconvene on Wednesday, as talks continue to bridge political divides and reach consensus on a unified path forward.

In parallel, UNSMIL is continuing its meetings with a broad range of Libyan stakeholders to gather perspectives on the upcoming political solution proposals. These efforts are part of the mission’s push to ensure inclusivity, transparency, and local legitimacy in the roadmap process.

The 6+6 Committee previously played a pivotal role in drafting electoral laws, though many of its outcomes have faced criticism over feasibility and inclusiveness. The renewed consultations seek to overcome past roadblocks and finalize a framework that can be realistically implemented.
