The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) convened a wide-ranging meeting on Monday to discuss preparations for the third group of municipal elections in Libya.
The session, chaired by HNEC President Emad Al-Sayah and Council Member Abdelhakim Al-Shaab, brought together directors of the commission’s technical departments and representatives of the UN-backed Project to Support Elections in Libya.
According to a statement, discussions centred on reviewing technical and logistical arrangements to ensure the smooth launch of the upcoming municipal polls. The participants examined the stages of election preparation, including candidate registration, polling station readiness, and ballot management, while also identifying measures to overcome potential challenges.
HNEC stressed that the meeting reflects its commitment to maintaining high levels of transparency and professionalism in all electoral processes. Officials underlined that municipal elections remain vital for strengthening local governance, enhancing citizen participation, and consolidating democratic practices across the country.
The Commission highlighted its efforts to raise operational readiness, ensure adherence to international standards, and safeguard the credibility of the vote. It also reaffirmed coordination with international partners to benefit from technical expertise and best practices in electoral management.
This round of municipal elections is part of a broader process aimed at renewing local councils across Libya. HNEC confirmed that the third group of municipalities is expected to proceed with their elections on schedule, marking another step in strengthening local institutions.
