Security unrest erupted on Tuesday evening in the Abu Kammash area, leading to the suspension of passenger movement toward Tunisia after protests escalated into road blockages and tire burnings, according to eyewitnesses.

Demonstrators closed the main road at the “T Kanbo” junction in the village of Abu Kammash, causing a complete halt to traffic heading to the Ras Jedir border crossing. The unrest stemmed from deteriorating living conditions, particularly among drivers of “Sequoia” and “Tundra” vehicles that transport goods, local sources reported.

Information also indicated that the road closure was supported by the so-called “Zuara Military Chamber,” which has controlled the administrative borders of Zuwara’s Zaltan municipality since 2011.

The disruption has further fueled concerns over border instability and the growing frustration of communities relying on trade and transport between Libya and Tunisia.
