Libya & Dubai Discuss Launch of Direct Air Routes

Libya and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have taken a concrete step towards restoring and expanding direct air connectivity, as Dubai expressed its interest in launching flights to Libyan airports. The announcement came during the 42nd session of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s General Assembly, held this week in Montreal.

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Libya’s Minister of Transport met with the Executive Director for Air Transport and International Affairs at Dubai Civil Aviation Authority.

During the meeting, the Emirati official conveyed Dubai’s clear intention to operate direct air services between the two countries, underlining the role of aviation in fostering stronger economic, social, and cultural ties.

According to the Libyan Ministry of Transport, Dubai submitted a formal request to the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority to initiate the technical evaluation required before any new air routes can be approved.

This process will involve safety checks, regulatory assessments, and coordination with Libyan airports, paving the way for the possible launch of flights in the near future.
