Libya’s Ministry of Interior has launched a humanitarian relief effort in Al-Kufra to support Sudanese families displaced by ongoing conflict in their country. The initiative is being implemented by the Joint Security Chamber of the southeast, under direct instructions from Interior Minister Issam Abu Zariba.
The first batch of aid supplies has been distributed to displaced Sudanese nationals, with priority given to the most vulnerable families and individuals facing severe hardship due to displacement. Officials said the relief effort is part of a broader response plan to address humanitarian needs in the southern region.
Field teams from the security chamber were deployed across Al-Kufra to assess the living conditions of the displaced. Detailed surveys and official registration lists were compiled to ensure aid reached eligible families without discrimination. Authorities stressed that transparency and accuracy were central to the distribution process, to guarantee fairness and accountability.
The Ministry of Interior emphasised that these efforts reflect Libya’s humanitarian commitment to its Sudanese neighbours. It said the ministry, working in cooperation with relevant agencies, remains determined to alleviate the suffering of Sudanese refugees who have fled the conflict and arrived in Libyan territory.
The initiative in Al-Kufra highlights the growing challenges faced by local authorities in southern Libya, which has become a key entry point for refugees and migrants. Officials confirmed that further aid batches will follow, as the ministry continues to coordinate with humanitarian partners to meet urgent needs.
The relief operation comes at a time when Al-Kufra is under pressure from both security concerns and migration flows, with local institutions playing a critical role in maintaining stability and delivering support.
