UNICEF has completed the rehabilitation of six schools in the southern region, creating a safe education environment for children. Two further schools are also currently being rehabilitated.

According to a statement of the UNICEF office in Libya, this rehabilitation project came with support from the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. The statement also indicated that 1,344 students were provided with drinking water and clean sanitation facilities at Al-Hurriya Primary School, located in the Al-Jadid area of Sebha.

In the same context, the Sebha Municipal Council announced the handover of the two schools of Al-Wahda in the Al-Jadid neighbourhood, and Al-Khansaa in the Mahdia neighbourhood, to the company in charge of their rehabilitation by UNDP. Municipal Council member Abu Bakr Jamaa said in a statement that the company will carry out various maintenance work in the two schools, and all work is scheduled to be completed within four months.

As a result of the escalation of armed conflict in Libya since 2019, 893,000 people, including 268,000 children are in need of humanitarian aid according to UNICEF. Children in Tripoli, Derna, and urban areas in the west and south are particularly vulnerable. Since April 2019, 500,000 children have experienced disruptions to their education in western Libya.
