Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) and global energy services company SLB (Schlumberger) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Omar Al-Mukhtar University aimed at strengthening scientific research, building national capacity, and developing the skills of students in oil and energy-related disciplines, particularly geology and earth sciences.
According to an official NOC statement, the agreement seeks to deepen cooperation between the three parties through the support and implementation of academic, training, and research programmes. The partnership is designed to reinforce the role of Omar Al-Mukhtar University as a leading academic institution contributing to the preparation of qualified national professionals in line with labour market needs and Libya’s long-term energy development goals.
Under the MoU, SLB will provide advanced technical systems and software used in oil and gas exploration and production, in addition to delivering specialised training programmes. These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of education and bridge the gap between theoretical studies and modern practical applications in the energy sector.
The agreement forms part of the National Oil Corporation’s broader strategy to support the modernisation of higher education in energy-related fields, expand cooperation with academic institutions, and establish sustainable partnerships that contribute to national development and the strengthening of Libya’s oil and gas sector.
By integrating advanced technology, industry expertise, and academic research, the partnership is expected to help equip a new generation of Libyan specialists with the skills required to support the country’s energy industry and future economic growth.
