Libya’s National Development Agency (NDA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with US-based company Farmtek as part of a Libyan-American partnership to implement a strategic national project involving the construction of 1,000 center-pivot irrigation systems.

The project aims to strengthen food security, improve water resource management, and support the expansion of modern, technology-driven agriculture across Libya. It is designed to boost agricultural productivity through large-scale irrigation infrastructure, helping to reduce reliance on food imports and enhance sustainable farming practices.

Under the MoU, the two sides will cooperate on planning, development, supply coordination, and project execution, drawing on advanced American expertise in irrigation technologies and agricultural equipment. The framework includes the involvement of leading international manufacturers such as Valley and New Holland, whose systems and machinery will be supplied through Farmtek as part of the approved implementation plan.

The National Development Agency said the agreement reflects its strategy to build effective international partnerships in key economic sectors and to reinforce its role in delivering major development projects that support long-term agricultural growth and national food security.

Officials stressed that the 1,000-pivot irrigation initiative is a cornerstone of Libya’s efforts to modernize its agricultural sector, optimize the use of water resources, and promote sustainable rural development through advanced irrigation solutions and large-scale farming systems.
