Libyan and Italian officials have held talks on the latest developments in the implementation of the strategic Ras Ajdir–Musaid coastal highway, underscoring continued efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting brought together Abubakr Ibrahim Al-Tawil, Director of the European Affairs Department at Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Government of National Unity, and Gianluca Alberini, Italy’s Ambassador to Libya. The discussions were attended by officials from the European Affairs Department, including Italy Desk Head Adel Al-Bariki and adviser Haitham Al-Naami.

Talks focused on ongoing preparations for two workshops organized by the European Affairs Department. The first workshop, scheduled for late March, will review the outcomes of EU- and European-funded projects related to migration and border security. The second, set for late April, will address Libyan-Italian relations and prospects for building a comprehensive and sustainable cooperation model.

Both sides also reviewed the latest progress in implementing the Ras Ajdir–Musaid highway project, particularly the first and fourth segments. The project is being carried out within the framework of commitments outlined in the Libya-Italy Treaty of Friendship, Partnership and Cooperation.

The coastal highway is considered one of Libya’s most significant infrastructure projects, expected to enhance connectivity across the country’s Mediterranean corridor and facilitate trade and mobility between western and eastern regions.

In addition, the meeting explored ways to expand cooperation in training and qualifying Libyan diplomatic personnel, with the aim of improving institutional performance and supporting the broader bilateral partnership.

The discussions reflect ongoing coordination between Tripoli and Rome as both sides seek to advance joint projects and deepen cooperation across infrastructure, migration management, and diplomatic capacity building.
