The Libyan Tribal Union has called on the country’s Attorney General to identify those responsible for the killing of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, demanding accountability for everyone involved in planning, carrying out, inciting, or financing the act.
In a statement issued in Tripoli, the union said the incident had deeply shaken a wide segment of Libyan society, noting that Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi held political influence and symbolic significance for many citizens across the country.
The statement stressed that many Libyans had viewed Saif Al-Islam as one of the figures who could potentially contribute to advancing national reconciliation and helping reunify the country after years of division and hardship.
The Libyan Tribal Union strongly condemned what it described as a “criminal and cowardly act,” warning that political assassinations pose a serious threat to Libya’s stability and future.
According to the statement, such acts undermine prospects for reconciliation and risk deepening political tensions in a country already struggling to overcome years of conflict and institutional division.
The union emphasized that political assassinations are unacceptable and inconsistent with the values of Libyan society as well as the principles of Islam. It called on the authorities to ensure that those responsible for the incident are brought to justice.
The statement also urged the Attorney General’s office to conduct a thorough investigation that would reveal all parties involved in the crime, including those who planned, executed, supported, or funded the operation.
The Libyan Tribal Union concluded by stressing that holding perpetrators accountable is essential to prevent similar incidents in the future and to protect Libya’s political stability during a critical period for the country.
