Libyan Airlines has denied reports of employee dismissals, confirming instead a large-scale staff reallocation programme aimed at improving efficiency within Libya’s aviation sector.
In an official statement, the airline said more than 1,000 employees are being reassigned across different departments based on their qualifications and job roles. The move is part of an internal restructuring plan designed to enhance operational performance and optimise workforce distribution.
The company stressed that the process does not involve layoffs and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting employees’ rights and ensuring job stability. “This step is part of a broader organisational reform to strengthen efficiency across all operational sectors,” the statement said.
As part of the process, a joint meeting was held in Benghazi between the airline’s regional director and the head of the Civil Aviation Authority in the city. The discussions focused on completing procedures to transfer a number of employees to the authority.
Officials confirmed that administrative arrangements are being finalised in line with legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure a smooth transition. Employee files have already been handed over as part of ongoing coordination between both sides.
The restructuring comes as Libya continues efforts to modernise its aviation sector, which has faced operational challenges due to years of instability and limited investment.
For employees, the move is expected to provide clearer roles and better alignment with institutional needs, while maintaining job security.
However, reforms in the aviation sector often face challenges, including bureaucratic hurdles and the need for sustained investment in infrastructure and training.
