Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephanie Koury, met with Secretary-General of the Libyan National Army (LNA) General Command, Khairy Al-Tamimi, to discuss the latest political and security developments in Libya and ongoing efforts to unify state institutions.

The talks focused on recent discussions held within the Security Working Group established under the Berlin Process, as well as consultations involving participants in Libya’s structured security dialogue. Both sides reviewed current challenges facing the country and exchanged views on ways to strengthen stability and institutional coordination.

A key focus of the meeting was the importance of unifying Libya’s military and security institutions. Participants emphasized that building unified national institutions remains essential for achieving long-term stability, reinforcing state authority, and preserving national unity.

The discussions also highlighted the need to continue advancing toward nationwide elections. Both sides stressed that political progress depends heavily on improving security conditions and creating a stable institutional environment capable of supporting a credible electoral process.

Koury and Al-Tamimi further discussed the role of international support in assisting Libya’s political transition. They underlined the importance of sustained international engagement to back dialogue initiatives, strengthen stability efforts, and encourage cooperation between Libyan institutions.

The meeting comes amid renewed diplomatic activity surrounding Libya’s political process and ongoing international efforts aimed at ending institutional divisions.
