The Libyan naval forces carried out maritime combat operations as part of the large-scale “Shield of Al Karama 2” military exercises, in one of the most significant field maneuvers conducted by the Libyan National Army in recent years.
The operations were attended by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Saddam Haftar, and formed part of wider military drills involving land, naval, and special forces units participating in the exercises.
According to military officials, the naval operations included securing Libya’s territorial waters, intercepting and destroying hostile maritime targets, and carrying out missions designed to cut enemy supply routes under simulated combat conditions reflecting different battlefield scenarios.
The exercises are taking place with the participation of more than 25,000 soldiers from various military units and formations. Senior military and political officials attending the maneuvers included Commander-in-Chief Khalifa Haftar, Prime Minister Osama Hammad, Chief of Staff Khaled Haftar, and National Security Adviser Abdulrazek Al-Nadhouri, alongside military commanders, security officials, and members of parliament.
The drills also featured live-fire exercises, assault operations, and airborne insertion missions behind simulated enemy lines carried out by Commando Brigade units from the 309th Division. Officials emphasized the readiness and operational precision demonstrated by participating units throughout the maneuvers.
Military sources stated that the exercises form part of broader modernization plans under the “Vision 2030” strategy launched by the General Command to improve combat readiness, expand operational capabilities, and strengthen the armed forces’ ability to maintain security and stability across Libya.
