The National Institution for Human Rights in Libya (NIHRL) has called for urgent measures to protect civilians in the western Libyan city of Zawiya following a new outbreak of armed clashes and violence in several neighborhoods.

In an emergency statement, the organization urged residents and foreign nationals living in the city to exercise extreme caution and avoid movement near conflict areas until security conditions improve.

The warning came as Zawiya experienced another wave of security tensions, raising concerns about the safety of civilians and the potential humanitarian consequences of continued violence. The institution stressed that the protection of civilians must remain the highest priority for all parties involved.

The organization also called for the immediate establishment of safe humanitarian corridors to allow ambulance crews, emergency responders, and Libyan Red Crescent teams to reach trapped residents and evacuate the injured from affected areas.

According to the statement, uninterrupted access for humanitarian and medical teams is essential to prevent further loss of life and ensure that wounded civilians receive urgent medical assistance.

The appeal reflects growing concern over the impact of recurring armed confrontations on daily life in Zawiya, a city that has witnessed repeated security incidents and outbreaks of violence in recent weeks. Residents have faced disruptions to movement, public services, and commercial activity as tensions continue to affect several parts of the city.

Human rights advocates warned that prolonged fighting could deepen humanitarian challenges and place additional pressure on local healthcare and emergency response services.

The latest statement comes amid increasing calls from local and international actors for restraint, dialogue, and an immediate end to violence. Observers have stressed that protecting civilians and preserving public safety are essential to preventing further instability in the strategically important coastal city.

Zawiya, located west of Tripoli, has periodically experienced security tensions linked to armed group rivalries and local disputes. Repeated clashes have fueled concerns about the broader impact on stability, public order, and the wellbeing of residents.

As the situation develops, humanitarian organizations and human rights groups continue to monitor events closely while urging all parties to respect international humanitarian principles and take every possible measure to safeguard civilians.
