Libya’s Ministry of African Affairs officially inaugurated its new headquarters in Benghazi on Thursday, in a step aimed at strengthening cooperation with African nations and expanding its diplomatic, political, and economic engagement across the continent.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Libyan Deputy Prime Minister Ali Al-Qatrani, several government ministers, senior officials, and representatives of the diplomatic missions of Sudan, Chad, and Morocco.
The opening of the headquarters is expected to enhance the ministry’s ability to coordinate Libya’s relations with African countries and promote regional cooperation.
Speaking during the ceremony, Minister of African Affairs Issa Abdulmajid described the inauguration as an important national milestone reflecting Libya’s commitment to restoring and expanding its role in Africa.
He said the new headquarters demonstrates the government’s determination to strengthen partnerships with African states and deepen cooperation in areas that serve the mutual interests of Libya and its neighbors.
Abdulmajid explained that the headquarters is more than an administrative building, describing it as the starting point for a new phase of Libyan diplomacy toward Africa. He said the ministry aims to broaden bilateral and multilateral cooperation in politics, trade, investment, security, education, culture, and sustainable development while promoting stronger regional partnerships.
The minister stressed that Libya considers Africa its strategic depth and is committed to building balanced relationships based on mutual respect, shared interests, and long-term cooperation. He added that the ministry will work closely with other state institutions to implement initiatives that strengthen Libya’s presence in African regional organizations and expand its role in continental affairs.
Abdulmajid also thanked the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA) and the eastern Libyan government for their continued support for the ministry, praising the efforts of all institutions that contributed to establishing and equipping the new headquarters.
He said the opening represents the beginning of a new chapter in Libya’s engagement with Africa and will help advance the country’s diplomatic and economic priorities across the continent.
