The Tunisian President, Kais Saied, received French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Tunis. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and a number of issues of common interest, primarily the Libyan crisis.

Saied referred to the success of Tunisian diplomacy in facilitating dialogue between the Libyan parties in November. He stressed the need for the Libyans to search for solutions that express the will of the Libyan people.

The Tunisian head of state added that if there is a need for other countries to intervene, then it is not at this stage. According to him, the greater the number of interveners, the more complex the situation becomes. Saied also expressed his confidence in the ability of the Libyans to choose their own fate.

The Tunisian President also reiterated his rejection of the division of Libya. He pointed out that Tunisia is on the side of the Libyan people, and it is one of the countries most affected by the situation.

The Tunisian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it had set 9 November as the date for political talks between the parties.
