On Monday, the Russian President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, met with the US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland. The US Ambassador to Moscow, John Sullivan, also attended the meeting.

In a statement, the Russian MoFA said that Bogdanov and Norland held detailed talks on the developments in and around Libya. The two sides focused on the need for the Libyan parties to fulfil the agreement to cease hostilities, as well as the tasks of the political settlement in accordance with the Berlin Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2510.

“Today, I’m in Moscow for discussions with Russian counterparts on ways we can support the Libyan-led, UN-facilitated resolution of the conflict in Libya,” Norland tweeted on Monday evening.

On Sunday, the Russian representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, called on all foreign forces, and all foreign security companies to leave Libya. This would be the first step, in order to stabilize the situation in the war-torn country. Last week the (5+5) Joint Military Committee met face-to-face for the first time in Geneva, and signed an agreement for a permanent ceasefire.
