Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Director General of Political and Security Affairs at the Italian Foreign Ministry Ambassador Sebastiano Cardi exchanged views on the situation in Libya.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the talks focused particularly on resolving the conflict in Libya.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of increasing cooperation between Russia, Italy and other countries concerned “in order to facilitate a lasting peace in Libya”, according to the Italian Nova Agency.

On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the Libyan settlement must include all major political forces from all regions of the country. He stressed that Moscow has been in contact with all Libyan parties for years.

During a meeting with Ageela Saleh, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Lavrov added that Libya was seeing calmer times in light of the recently agreed ceasefire.

“The sooner the post-conflict settlement is completed and normal life begins, the quicker we will be able to resume bilateral cooperation in all areas: energy, transport infrastructure, as well as economic and investment projects in general for the benefit of our peoples”, Lavrov said.
