Libyan Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Tamim Baiou chaired on Tuesday the first meeting of the Arab Group. This comes after Libya assumed the presidency of the Council of Arab Permanent Representatives at the UN in January.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), it is the first time in nearly ten years for Libya to chair the Arab Group.
In his opening speech, Baiou expressed his welcome of the Al-Ula agreement issued by the recent summit of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on 5 January. He stressed that the agreement embodies the depth of solidarity and stability in a way that serves the aspirations of the people. Baiou also praised the role of Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman in facilitating the agreement.
The Ambassador expressed Libya’s belief in the need to unite all efforts to advance the Arab world, and support programs, projects, and decisions that contribute to the health, stability, peace, and security of the region.
