On Sunday, the Egyptian coastal city of Hurghada will host a meeting between the two main military powers in Libya in order to find a permanent solution to the North-African country’s conflict, according to sources.

The two Libyan military delegations of the Libyan National Army (LNA) and the Government of National Accord (GNA) will discuss the establishment of two military committees from the east and west of Libya to form a force responsible for securing the headquarters of the new government in Sirte.

The two sides will also discuss establishing an expanded military committee to discuss the declaration of a unified military force in Libya.

The sources confirmed that the meeting will review plans to remove mercenaries and armed militias from Libya as well as reviewing ways to secure oil sites.

On Friday, sources revealed that the LNA and the GNA reached an initial agreement to make Sirte a demilitarised city to be the headquarters for the new government.

The sources pointed that the conflicting parties would declare a permanent truce between the army and the reconciliation forces.

On Wednesday, Ageela Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, and Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) held a meeting in Cairo, Egypt. The meeting was also attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Egypt’s Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel.

Saleh has confirmed that the meeting with Haftar was to support the political solution and unify Libyan institutions.
