Benghazi Motorcycle Club Shows Another Side of War-Torn Libya

Dozens of heavy-duty motorbikes took to the road in regular parades through the streets of Benghzi city in eastern Libya.

For the members of Benghazi Motorcycle Club, biking is not only a passion, it is also a way of portraying the city in a different light, the AFP reported.

The club was established in 2014 on the initiative of a group of amateur riders. Its emblem contains a Harley Davidson-inspired eagle and boasts 120 members.

Club members also raise funds for charities, stage “parades for peace” and take part in official functions. During Ramadan, the bikers distributed snacks and drinks to motorists running late for iftar.

All this “gives a good image” of the country, the club’s President, Ahmed al-Fitouri concluded.

“We’ve had French and British crews film us, and we’ve shown them that not all Libyans make war, they’re not all criminals,” al-Fitouri said.
