“Acting SRSG: Our Priority Now is Implementing the Humanitarian Truce”

Deputy Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Stephanie Williams said the Mission’s top priority was to bring an end to the fighting, implement the humanitarian truce and focus on confronting the spread of COVID-19 in Libya.

Williams pointed out that the Mission is committed to moving forward in these three tracks that are based on the outcome of the Berlin Conference.

In a statement to ‘Al Sharq Al Awsat’ newspaper, Williams indicated that these tracks (Military, Political and Economic) represent “the action plan that we follow and hope to move forward on”. This comes despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Deputy Head warning that continued fighting amid the spread of the virus would have a detrimental impact on Libya.
