On Saturday, the Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdelhamid Dbaiba, announced that medical equipment will be sent to southern Tunisia to help confront the new outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dbaiba added that his government has asked Tunisia to facilitate the necessary procedures for the flow of movement at the border gates between the two countries.

During a press conference with the Tunisian Prime Minister, Hichem Mechichi, in Tripoli, Dbaiba indicated that the conditions for Tunisian workers in Libya will be settled, and restrictions on the credits of goods coming to Tunisia by land will be lifted.

Dbaiba praised the momentum witnessed in Libyan-Tunisian relations since the GNU assumed its duties. He noted that they discussed the release of Libyan funds seized at Tunisian customs, which were seized in the difficult circumstances that Tunisia went through.

The Libyan Prime Minister said that, “we will not leave Tunisia alone in the face of difficult economic conditions. We will take all necessary steps to help Tunisian brothers.” He added that they have signed agreements “in the fields of land, sea and air transport with the Tunisian side.”

For his part, the Tunisian Prime Minister said that everything that affects Libya, its security and stability, affects Tunisia. He added that his government will work to facilitate the entry of Libyan citizens into Tunisia and lift restrictions on the issue of ownership.

Notably, the Tunisian Prime Minister arrived in Tripoli on Saturday accompanied by a Tunisian ministerial delegation in an official visit that will last for two days. The delegation included the Ministers of Economy, Finance and Investment Support, Equipment, Trade and Industry and Foreign Affairs.

The delegation also included the Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, the Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union, the president of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade, and Handicrafts, the President of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries, heads and representatives of Tunisian companies and businessmen.
