Direct Flights Between Libya and Algeria Set to Resume Under New Deal
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Libya and Algeria have agreed to resume direct air travel after signing a new bilateral aviation deal, marking a key step toward restoring regional connectivity and boosting economic ties.

The agreement, initialled in Algiers at the headquarters of the National Civil Aviation Agency, includes a memorandum of understanding outlining the operational framework for restarting flights between the two countries. The deal will enter into force immediately after final approval by the respective civil aviation authorities.

Under the agreement, each designated airline from Libya and Algeria will be allowed to operate up to 14 passenger flights per week, in addition to cargo services. The move is expected to significantly enhance travel options for passengers while strengthening trade and logistics links between the two nations.

The resumption of flights is seen as a major development for Libya’s aviation sector, which continues to recover from years of disruption. Industry observers note that reconnecting with Algeria’s aviation network—particularly through Algiers’ Houari Boumediene International Airport—will provide Libyan travellers with broader access to international destinations.

Officials also stressed the economic importance of the agreement, highlighting the role of air transport in facilitating business activity, tourism, and cross-border cooperation. The renewed air link is expected to support commercial exchange and contribute to regional integration efforts across North Africa.

The agreement reflects ongoing efforts by Libyan authorities to rebuild international partnerships and improve transport infrastructure. It also aligns with broader initiatives aimed at revitalising the country’s economy and strengthening its connectivity with neighbouring states.
