Libya’s Ministry of Economy and Trade has approved Qatar Airways’ request to establish a branch in the country, marking a significant step toward the airline’s planned return to the Libyan market and the eventual resumption of commercial flights.

The ministry announced on Saturday that the approval will enable Qatar Airways to complete the remaining legal, administrative, and operational procedures required before restarting its services to Libya. Officials described the decision as part of broader efforts to improve the country’s business environment and facilitate the return of major international companies.

According to the ministry, the approval supports Libya’s strategy of strengthening its links with regional and international air transport networks while encouraging greater foreign investment and commercial activity. The return of international airlines is also expected to improve connectivity for passengers, businesses, and cargo operators.

The ministry said the presence of global carriers in Libya reflects growing confidence in the country’s economic potential and the opportunities available across various sectors. It added that expanding international air services will help improve transportation and logistics while supporting trade, investment, and tourism.

Officials stressed that the government remains committed to creating a more attractive environment for international companies by simplifying procedures and encouraging new investment. The ministry said these efforts form part of a wider economic strategy aimed at strengthening Libya’s integration into regional and global markets.
