Libya ranked 15th among the Arab countries in the rates of vaccination of its citizens against the COVID-19 virus, as 243,000 citizens received the vaccine, at a rate of 3.6 per 100 people.
According to the “Our World in Data” website, the number of people who have received the vaccine in the continent of Asia reached 1 billion and 170 million people.
According to the website, Morocco is the first Arab country to vaccinate its citizens, as up to 15 million people have received the vaccine. In second place, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has vaccinated 14.7 million people.
Globally, more than 2 billion people have received the vaccine. There are a number of widespread vaccines, while some countries rely on different standards for vaccination. Some countries are working to vaccinate their citizens as quickly as possible, and others depend on priority, so elderly receive it first, followed by patients.
At the global level, the United States (US) came in 2nd place as 277 million people received the vaccine. The US was followed by India as 223 million have been vaccinated. Brazil came in 4th place with 70 million, and the United Kingdom came in 5th place with 66 million.
Director of the Vaccination Department at Libya’s National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Abdel Basset Samio, confirmed that more than 217,000 people had received COVID-19 vaccinations in Libya so far.
In press statements, Samio announced starting distributing the British “AstraZeneca” vaccine to the four supply branches in Benghazi, Tripoli, Sabha and Misrata, and from there to the cities and regions affiliated with them.
Samio indicated that the registration process in the national vaccination system is continuing. He added that the Chinese vaccine, “Sinopharm”, is about to run out, noting that some municipalities have already finished their quotas of this vaccine
The Director of the Vaccination Department at the NCDC said that the vaccination centres are continuing to implement the vaccination campaign according to the prepared plan. He noted that no additional quantities of COVID-19 vaccines have arrived so far.
