On Saturday, Ali Al-Tekbali, a member of the Defense and National Security Parliamentary Committee affirmed that no permanent solution would be achieved in Libya until all armed militias deployed in the country are dismantled.
In press statements, Al-Tekbali indicated that he does not believe in holding the country’s upcoming elections, scheduled for December 2021, in light of the presence of armed militias that impede Libya’s security, especially those deployed inside Tripoli.
The Member of Parliament (MP) urged the United Nations (UN) to assume its responsibilities as it had put an inverse solution to the Libyan crisis in light of the presence of armed militias and foreign forces who are in control of the country’s affairs.
He added that foreign powers have provided rival militias with weapons and heavy equipment. he said “that the numbers were large, more than 230,000 armed elements came to Libya from abroad, and everyone wanted to inherit the stage after the fall of the regime.”
Libya has been politically divided between eastern and western governments for years, before the Government of National Unity (GNU) was approved by the Libyan Parliament earlier this year.
The GNU’s main task is to prepare for the upcoming general elections in Libya on the 24th of December, as agreed upon during UN-sponsored peace talks.
