The German Ambassador to Cairo, Frank Hartmann announced a visit to Egypt by German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock. This included discussions on the situation in Libya.

During an interview with ‘Daily News Egypt,’ Hartmann stated that Baerbock intends to meet with her Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry and other members of the government during her two-day visit. As well as to discuss important regional issues, such as Libya.

Hartmann confirmed his appreciation for Egyptian efforts to achieve stability, and strengthen the peace process in the region.

He added that Germany urged parties in Libya not to deviate from the outcomes of the Berlin Conference’s and the Paris Conference. The Ambassador also confirmed that Berlin continues to encourage Presidential and Parliamentary elections to be held.

Last month, Libya’s Interior Minister, Khaled Mazen met with the German Ambassador to Libya, Michael Ohnmacht and his accompanying delegation in Tripoli. They discussed prospects for security cooperation between Libya and Germany in information exchange, combating illegal migration, money laundering, and human rights.

The meeting also discussed the issue of training and support for the Criminal Investigation Agency, the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control Service, and the General Administration for the Protection of Diplomatic Missions.

Mazen confirmed the development of a roadmap, and the issuance of a joint work matrix to develop human resources and improve the Libyan police’s performance.

He urged Ohnmacht to reopen visa services to Libyans for work, study, treatment, and tourism, as other European Embassies have done.

The Ambassador stressed the depth of relations between the two countries, expressing his readiness to cooperate and provide support through the German Federal Police.
