On Tuesday, the Italian Embassy in Libya reaffirmed its full support for the Government of National Accord (GNA).

The Embassy urged the Libyan National Army (LNA) and the GNA to agree to a humanitarian truce during the holy month of Ramadan.

On Monday, the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, announced that the LNA would take over the management of Libya’s affairs of state. According to Haftar, the UN-brokered Libyan Political Agreement that was signed in Skirhat, Morocco, in 2015 has expired and can no longer be considered valid.

The LNA commander thanked the Libyan people for supporting the country’s armed forces and vowed to continue the LNA’s battle against extremism in Libya.
