Attack on Libyan Parliament Headquarters to be Investigated

The Media Advisor to the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Fathi Al-Marimi, said that the House of Representatives (HoR) supports the peaceful protests. He added that the Parliament supported the peaceful demonstration, but it denounces and rejects sabotage.

Al-Marimi explained that the headquarters belongs to the Libyan people, not to the members of the HoR, nor to its President. He said that the burning of the Parliament and other headquarters cost millions to the Libyan state Treasury. The Parliament refuses to approach any other headquarters and sabotage them.

Al-Marimi noted that anyone has the right to demonstrate according to what is guaranteed to him by the constitutional declaration but in a peaceful manner. He pointed out that the social components in Cyrenaica or Libya, in general are one social fabric and they respect each other. The issue has nothing to do with social and tribal matters.

He added, “we are tribes that respect each other. We have relations, intermarriage and neighborhood and we are with each other. The investigations into the burning of the headquarters will come. Anyone named will be investigated.”

He noted that investigations are still ongoing, because the intelligence and security services arrest a person every day who has equipment, devices and tools stolen from the headquarters.
