The Youth Forum for Libyan influencers “Towards Peace” and the announcement of the launch of the “Libya Plus” platform concerned with Libyan youth affairs were launched in Tripoli.

In a statement, the Presidential Council confirmed that the platform calls for tolerance, peace, and limiting hate speech. The platform supervisor, Fatma Benkhayal said that it will “enable all youths to spread their ideas and visions.”

According to Benkhayal, the platform will “encourage dialogue, acceptance of others, peace-building, and the achievement of stability that all Libyans aspire to after years of division, fighting, and the tearing of the social fabric.”

Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi praised the youth participating in the forum.

In his speech at the opening session of the forum, Al-Lafi said that “this forum, which adopted peace as a slogan and title, is what the country needed and our people aspired to.”

He stressed that the participation of youth of all their components in this forum demonstrates their ability to change, and create peace and stability in order to contribute to the success of the national reconciliation project launched by the Presidential Council.

He explained that “young people are one of the pillars of the project, which requires them to make maximum efforts to reduce division, urge dialogue to resolve differences, establish a culture of accepting others, respecting their opinions, and avoiding violence and hate speech, in order to contribute to restoring security, peace and stability.”

He also announced the launch of the Libyan youth platform, “Libya Plus”, which calls for curbing hate speech and calls for tolerance and peace.

During its activities, several presentations were made to show the role of youth influence in society.

The two-day forum includes a workshop and dialogue sessions focused on the role of youth in the success of national reconciliation, reconciliation tools, participation in peace, and dialogue on hate speech.
