A delegation of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), headed by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Fawzi Al Nuwairi, participated in the opening session of the General Assembly (146) of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 211 session of the Governing Council.
The delegation included the Head of the Legislative and Constitutional Committee, Ramadan Shambesh, Member of Parliament (MP), Rabiah Aburas and MP Sultanah Al-Mismari,
The IPU session kicked off on Saturday in the Bahraini capital, Manama, under the slogan Promoting Peaceful Coexistence and Inclusive Societies: Combating Intolerance.
The session opened with a speech by the Speaker of the Bahraini Parliament, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, followed by a speech by the President of the IPU, Duarte Pacheco. They welcomed the participating delegations.
Promote peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies, and combat intolerance. It is worth noting that the meetings of the General Assembly of the IPU, which opened on Saturday, will continue until March 15th.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, delivered a recorded speech, in which he emphasised the role of the IPU in promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies and combating intolerance.
Last October, a delegation from the Libyan Parliament participated in the 145th General Assembly of the IPU in the Rwandan capital, Kigali. It was hosted by the Rwandan Parliament from October 11th to 15th.
The Libyan delegation was headed by Al-Nuwairi. It included MP Ramadan Shambash, and the Chief of the Parliament’s Office, Abdullah Al-Masry Al-Fadil.
The agenda of the meeting included the election of the President and Vice-Presidents of the General Assembly and the consideration of requests to include an emergency item in the agenda.
It also included a discussion on advancing the local and regional development of countries experiencing high levels of international migration. As well as to stop all forms of human trafficking and human rights violations, in addition to discussing the reports of the permanent committees.
