Chairman of the Benghazi Reconstruction and Stabilization Committee, Hatem Al-Araibi held an extensive meeting with committee members, and the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior of the Libyan Parliament-designated government, Faraj Qaim.
The meeting discussed the maintenance of schools, and reviewed completed and ongoing reconstruction projects.
A number of senior engineers supervising development and infrastructure projects in Benghazi participated in the meeting.
They also discussed the “best ways to address the obstacles and difficulties facing these projects, and the companies entrusted with them and the development of urgent and necessary solutions for them.”
Al-Araibi praised the efforts of the engineers and specialists in their “keenness to complete the projects, according to the approved quality specifications. As well as to intensify efforts to improve the appearance of Libyan cities and regions in a civilized way.”
Last month, the committee said it aims to carry out maintenance of different areas of the city and the university.
Al-Araibi told Libya Herald that the committee, in cooperation with the various executive bodies, has begun reconstruction and maintenance work in Benghazi. This is currently focused on destroyed neighbourhoods, as a result of military operations over the past years, and within the University of Benghazi.
He said this comes within the implementation of a plan to revive stalled projects, whether infrastructure or housing, or various service facilities.
Al-Araibi said that the committee has started comprehensive maintenance of residential buildings in the Al-Kish area. He acknowledged the role of Egyptian companies in field studies, cadastral surveying and logistical work to implement four bridges in the city of Benghazi.
Earlier this month, Qaim’s office announced a decrease in the crime index in the city of Benghazi. It said in a statement that “no criminal activity was detected from 23-29 March 2023.”
Qaim met with the Director of the Benghazi Security Directorate and the Heads of police stations. According to the statement, the meeting discussed the continuation of security operations to eliminate drug dens, collect weapons, and arrest wanted persons.
They emphasized the intensification of efforts to combat crime, in accordance with the recently announced security plan.
