U.S. Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland has reaffirmed his country’s support for efforts led by the United Nations to promote political dialogue between the warring parties in Libya.

The statement came during a video meeting with representatives of the Amazigh Supreme Council last Friday.

The representatives briefed the U.S. Ambassador on their ongoing efforts to promote equal rights the Amazigh in Libya.

Norland stressed that political dialogue in the country could only be successful and legitimate with the meaningful participation of Libya’s indigenous and ethnic groups, including the Amazigh, Tebu, and Tuareg.

The Ambassador expressed support for the activities undertaken by the Council to promote civic participation, advocate for political and social rights, and improve education in Libya.

This includes initiatives undertaken in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) since 2017.
