Nasr El-Din Al-Fazani, Libya’s Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries, took part in the Mediterranean Tourism Forum Ministers’ Summit, held in the capital city of Malta, Valletta.

This event brought together tourism Ministers and delegates from several Mediterranean countries including Malta, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Palestine, and Spain, fostering discussions on collaborative tourism strategies in the region.

The forum, highlighted by the “Our Government” Facebook platform, featured intensive roundtable discussions. Key topics included enhancing the competitiveness of the tourism sector through digitalisation and re-envisioning tourism with a focus on sustainability.

These discussions are critical, considering the rapid evolution of the global tourism industry and the increasing importance of sustainable practices.

Addressing the summit, Minister Al-Fazani presented Libya’s progressive vision towards the tourism sector, as outlined by the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the Ministry of Tourism. A significant emphasis was placed on the digital transformation of the tourism industry.

This includes the implementation of the postal addressing program and upgrades to the telecommunications infrastructure, aimed at improving service quality and operational efficiency.

Libya’s participation in the forum underscores its commitment to playing a significant role in the Mediterranean tourism landscape. By engaging in these multilateral discussions, Libya aims to align its tourism strategies with regional trends and practices, which is vital for its integration into the broader Mediterranean tourism market.

The forum represents a crucial step for Libya in redefining its tourism sector, especially in the post-conflict era. Embracing digitalisation and sustainability could propel the country towards becoming a competitive tourism destination. The insights gained and the relationships fostered at the forum are expected to contribute significantly to the rejuvenation and growth of Libya’s tourism industry.

The Mediterranean Tourism Forum Ministers Summit in Valletta offered a platform for Libya to engage with regional partners, share its vision, and learn from others’ experiences. The discussions and initiatives presented by Minister Al-Fazani reflect Libya’s dedication to revamping its tourism sector and adapting to contemporary global trends. He sets a positive trajectory for the country’s economic and cultural growth.
