“Amr Moussa: Turkey is the Greatest Danger to the Arab World Today”

Amr Moussa, the former Secretary-General of the Arab League, and former Egyptian Foreign Minister, indicated that Turkey currently poses the greatest dangers to the Arab world.

In an interview with “Sky News Arabia”, on Thursday, Moussa said that Turkey “has moved militarily during the last days in 3 locations in the Arab world, in northern Iraq through air strikes, and in northern Syria with a military presence on the ground and in Libya, through the air, sea presence and the offloading of mercenaries and militias.”

“So we are facing a very dangerous development in the region, the latest of which is Turkey’s ability to be present in more than one location at the same moment,” the Egyptian diplomat added.

Moussa considered that Turkey “is more dangerous to the Arab world than Iran due to its strategic capabilities, as it is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), and has a huge strategic relationship with the United States and the same with Russia, and also has interlocking interests with the European Union.”

Moussa expressed his belief that “it would not have been possible for Turkey to do what it is doing in Libya, and to cross the waters of the Mediterranean, and to be there with military forces, militias and mercenaries without the consent of the super powers,” stressing that Ankara at the same time benefits from this.

He said that there are major powers present in Libya, such as the United States, Russia and European countries, and “it is not necessary that the interests of these powers be consistent, but they are unanimous in keeping the status quo as it is until things are managed.”

The former Egyptian Minister added that these forces “do not want Government of National Accord’s Fayez Al-Sarraj to take everything, nor the commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army, Khalifa Haftar, to take everything.”
