Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Agency has deported and transferred 202 irregular migrants from the Al-Butnan region in eastern Libya as part of an ongoing security campaign against unlawful residency and irregular migration.
The agency’s Al-Butnan branch said the migrants were divided into two groups. The first group was deported through the Emsaed land border crossing after completing the required legal and administrative procedures.
The second group was transferred to the Qanfouda Shelter and Deportation Centre, where officials will complete the necessary procedures before arranging their return to their countries of origin.
According to the agency, the operation was carried out under the instructions of its head and formed part of a wider security plan intended to enforce immigration laws, strengthen national security and maintain stability across the country.
The agency said its branches continue to identify migrants who violate residency regulations and process their cases in accordance with Libyan law.
Meanwhile, Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi, Head of Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Agency, received a delegation from the International Organization for Migration at the agency’s headquarters in Benghazi.
The meeting addressed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the two sides, particularly in relation to migrant accommodation, healthcare and humanitarian assistance.
Al-Khafifi said shelter centres were undergoing infrastructure development and modernisation. He added that the authorities were working to provide transport vehicles, ambulances and medical services to improve humanitarian and care conditions inside the facilities.
The discussions also covered plans to develop healthcare programmes, expand humanitarian services and increase voluntary return operations for migrants.
Al-Khafifi confirmed the agency’s commitment to continued cooperation with the IOM to improve services provided to migrants in line with recognised humanitarian standards.
