The National Oil Corporation (NOC) of Libya is set to launch an ambitious environmental initiative, “For a Greener Nation,” aiming to plant one million trees over the next three years, starting from the current agricultural season.
In a meeting held on Monday evening, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Animal Wealth for Diwan Affairs and Agricultural Reclamation, along with the Director of Sustainable Development at the NOC, agreed on a series of practical and technical measures to support this initiative.
This initiative is part of its commitment to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) related to protecting agriculture, and combating various forms of desertification.
The meeting was attended by coordinators of the Agriculture and Animal Wealth sector from several municipalities, executive directors of various departments, technical administrations, and projects affiliated with the Ministry, as well as experts from the NOC. Representatives from the Libyan Scouts and Guides Pioneers Association, and the Friends of the Tree Society were also present.
The “For a Greener Nation” initiative represents a significant step by the Corporation towards environmental stewardship and sustainable development in Libya. By planting one million trees, the NOC aims not only to enhance the country’s green cover, but also to actively participate in global efforts to combat environmental challenges such as desertification. This initiative underscores the increasing role of corporate entities in environmental conservation, and their commitment to contributing positively to the broader goals of sustainable development.
The NOC is stepping up efforts to attract global technological and oil service companies.
In a strategic meeting chaired by the NOC’s Central Negotiation Committee for the Oil Sector, discussions revolved around bringing global tech and oil service giants, to revolutionise the oil industry. This was attended by NOC directors, alongside executives from Libya’s Tech Company, Halliburton, and Schlumberger, the meeting focused on potential collaborations with tech leaders like SAP and Oracle.
