Youssef Al-Hassadi Wins Chess Championship in Libya for the 2nd Time

In a stunning display of skill and strategy, Youssef Al-Hassadi has once again been crowned victor of the Libya Chess Championship, securing his title for the second year in a row. The prestigious 33rd edition of the tournament concluded this Sunday, in Al-Bayda.

Al-Hassadi clinched the championship cup and gold medal with a decisive victory in the final round against his challenger, Naji Abu Qinda. This victory elevated his total to an impressive 7.5 points, narrowly outpacing his closest competitor, Hussein Al-Sabri, by half a point. Al-Sabri, not far behind, secured the bronze medal with a final score of seven points after his win against, Juma Al-Balazi.

In a tightly contested tournament, Ahmed Nasr Al-Din finished with six points, while Ali Al-Shaafi managed to secure the fourth position with an equal score. Abu Qinda rounded out the top five, with a score of five and a half points.

This year’s championship, organized by the National Chess Federation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, this year’s championship embraced the Swiss system, known for its fair and rigorous format, and the long chess format, challenging the players’ endurance and strategic depth.

The event not only celebrated the triumph of Al-Hassadi, but also showcased the growing talent and competitive spirit within Libyan chess. As the players set their sights on future tournaments, Al-Hassadi’s consecutive victories have undoubtedly set a new benchmark in Libyan chess.

The tournament is renowned for showcasing the nation’s top chess talents, fostering a competitive spirit among participants.

Amidst growing enthusiasm for chess in Libya, the tournament has become a beacon of intellectual excellence, attracting not only seasoned players, but also emerging talents, keen to etch their names in the annals of Libya’s rich chess history.
