In a stunning display of skill and strategy, Youssef Al-Hassadi has once again been crowned victor of the Libya Chess Championship, securing his title for the second year in a row. The prestigious 33rd edition of the tournament concluded this Sunday, in Al-Bayda.
Al-Hassadi clinched the championship cup and gold medal with a decisive victory in the final round against his challenger, Naji Abu Qinda. This victory elevated his total to an impressive 7.5 points, narrowly outpacing his closest competitor, Hussein Al-Sabri, by half a point. Al-Sabri, not far behind, secured the bronze medal with a final score of seven points after his win against, Juma Al-Balazi.
In a tightly contested tournament, Ahmed Nasr Al-Din finished with six points, while Ali Al-Shaafi managed to secure the fourth position with an equal score. Abu Qinda rounded out the top five, with a score of five and a half points.
This year’s championship, organized by the National Chess Federation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, this year’s championship embraced the Swiss system, known for its fair and rigorous format, and the long chess format, challenging the players’ endurance and strategic depth.
