France, Germany, and Italy Call For Immediate Ceasefire In Libya

In a joint statement on Thursday, France, Germany, and Italy have called on all Libyan parties to end the fighting immediately and put an end to the current military operations in the country.

According to the Joint Statement, they called on external parties to stop interfering in Libya and to fully respect the arms embargo imposed by the UN Security Council.

Paris, Berlin, and Rome encouraged a rapid conclusion to negotiations under the auspices of the UN. This must be alongside a permanent and credible ceasefire agreement.

The statement showed support for Egypt’s ‘Cairo Declaration’ that was announced on 6 June and said that similar initiatives were encouraged.

The three countries stressed that any initiative that supports a ceasefire agreement and a political settlement in Libya must adhere to the principles of the Berlin Conference, which remained the only viable framework for reaching a peaceful end to the crisis.
