The Libyan Fertility Society’s third conference, held in the capital, Tripoli, concluded successfully. The event, which carried the theme “Together for Better Motherhood and Fertility Treatment,” was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity (GNU) and various infertility treatment centres and hospitals across Libya.
According to the Health Ministry’s media office, the conference, which spanned Friday and Saturday, saw the participation of over 300 consultants, specialists, and doctors from various fields. The event also featured elite consultants from Jordan, Tunisia, the Egyptian Foundation for Reproductive Medicine and Embryology (EFREE), and the Middle East Fertility Society (MEFS).
The conference covered a wide range of research papers and discussion panels on topics including:
– the role of combined hysteroscopy and laparoscopy in treating female infertility
– strategies to reduce male infertility
– the World Health Organization’s (WHO) reference values for semen analysis results
– the journey of sperm towards the egg
– the impact of Vitamin D supplements on in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle outcomes
– recurrent implantation failure
– stem cell therapy for infertility
– luteal phase support
– sperm and embryo banks’ current practices and ethical considerations
– The Libyan law’s stance on modern medical practices arising from artificial insemination procedures
The event was coordinated with several key institutions, including the Tripoli Infertility Treatment Center, Benghazi Teaching Hospital for Fertility and Reproductive Assistance, the National Teaching Center for Infertility Diagnosis and Treatment in Al Bayda, the Zawiya Infertility and Embryo Transfer Treatment Centre, the Sabha Infertility Treatment Centre, the Gharyan Infertility Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and the Western Mountain Infertility Treatment Center in Zintan, demonstrating a comprehensive and collaborative effort to advance fertility treatment and research in Libya.
Notably, the Libyan Health Minister-designate, Osman Abdul Jalil, inaugurated the new laboratories of the Faculty of Medicine at Derna University. This significant event took place during his participation in the International Conference on Scientific Research held at the university, Both local and international specialists attended.
According to the Libyan government-designate’s media office, Abdul Jalil’s visit to Derna University aimed to engage in the international conference’s activities alongside the commander of Derna’s security military zone, Abdul Basit Boukhris.
During his speech at the conference, the Minister emphasised the importance of practically implementing the conference’s findings across various sectors.
