Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade at the Government of National Unity (GNU) Mohamed Al-Hwaij has directed the relevant departments within his ministry to facilitate the operations of Chinese companies in Libya. This directive includes solving any issues these companies face in resuming their operations and completing their investment projects, highlighting the importance of major companies investing in the nation.
The directive was issued during a meeting with Liu Jian, the Chinese Chargé d’Affaires in Libya, on Monday, focusing on enhancing economic and commercial relationships between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by the Director of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at the ministry, the Deputy Director-General of the Insurance Supervision Authority, and a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
During the meeting, discussions also centered on revitalizing and supporting the Libyan-Chinese Business Council. According to a statement published on the Ministry of Economy’s Facebook page, this initiative aims to facilitate the private sector’s operations, strengthen economic and commercial cooperation, and encourage mutual visits and the formation of joint cooperation committees in both countries.
Liu Jian expressed the Chinese companies’ eagerness to resume their activities in Libya and contribute to various investment projects. He highlighted the importance of establishing direct communication channels between the Chinese Embassy and the Libyan Ministry of Economy and Trade. This effort is to organize official visits and bilateral meetings involving business owners, trade chambers, and joint chambers, with the goal of fostering genuine partnership opportunities between the private sectors of both nations.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to attract foreign investment and stimulate economic growth in Libya, leveraging the strategic partnership with China to advance the nation’s recovery and development post-conflict.
