Qatar has affirmed its full support for the Libyan political process, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and all peaceful solutions that preserve Libya’s unity, stability, sovereignty, and meet the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, peace, development, and prosperity. This was stated by the Qatari news agency.

The statement was made by Mohammed Abdullah Nasser Al Khalifa, Secretary of the Human Rights Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during an interactive dialogue on the report of the UN Human Rights Commissioner regarding technical assistance and capacity building to improve the human rights situation in Libya. The dialogue was part of the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Al Khalifa called on all Libyan parties to respect their international legal and treaty obligations, avoid escalation, heed the voice of reason, resolve differences through dialogue, prioritize national interests, and create suitable conditions for conducting presidential and parliamentary elections throughout Libya. He also emphasized the need to enhance transitional justice and national reconciliation, and to ensure accountability for all violations committed against Libyans.

Additionally, the Qatari foreign secretary urged the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the international community to continue cooperating with Libyan authorities to develop and implement technical assistance programs and capacity building in line with Libya’s priorities. These efforts should contribute to the building of Libya’s national institutions, ensuring the rule of law, combating illegal immigration and human trafficking, and enhancing and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.
