The Libyan Consulate in Istanbul has issued an urgent advisory urging Libyan nationals residing in the city to carry valid identification documents at all times, including passports and residence permits, amid tightened security measures across Turkey.

In an official statement, the consulate stressed that Libyan citizens must ensure they have their documents readily available while moving across different areas of Istanbul, as Turkish authorities step up enforcement and identity checks as part of a wider security campaign.

Heightened Security Measures in Istanbul

The advisory comes as Turkish authorities launch a large-scale security operation known as “Peaceful Istanbul,” aimed at reinforcing stability, combating illegal activities, and identifying individuals in violation of local laws.

Authorities are expected to increase patrols and conduct routine checks throughout the city, particularly in high-traffic areas, as part of efforts to maintain public order and enhance safety.

Consulate Urges Compliance to Avoid Legal Issues

The Libyan Consulate emphasised the importance of complying with all instructions issued by Turkish security forces, warning that failure to present official identification upon request could lead to legal complications.

Libyan nationals were strongly advised to cooperate fully with authorities and adhere to local regulations to avoid unnecessary difficulties during the ongoing security campaign.

The consulate reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of Libyan citizens abroad and encouraged residents to remain vigilant and informed during this period of heightened security enforcement.
