Libya Urges Citizens to Leave Lebanon

Libyan Foreign Ministry of the Parliament-designate government urgently called for Libyan citizens to leave Lebanon immediately due to escalating events in the country.

The ministry has advised citizens to contact the Director of the Expatriate Affairs Department for assistance.

The call comes amid fears of a broader conflict and extensive attacks by Iran and Hezbollah. In response, Israel has heightened its alert status along its northern border.

This situation follows a series of assassinations by Israel targeting Palestinian political leaders.

Last week, the Libyan House of Representatives has condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), in the Iranian capital Tehran. The assassination, carried out in an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday morning, has been denounced by the parliament as an act of hostility and terrorism by Israel, aimed at destabilising the region and targeting free and resistant voices.

In its statement, the parliament declared the assassination of Haniyeh as a reflection of the enmity and terrorism practiced by the Israeli occupation, which is notorious for its efforts to destabilise the region.

The parliament strongly condemned this “criminal” act and called on the international community to take a firm and clear stance against such criminal actions that threaten international peace and security. The parliament also expressed its full solidarity with Haniyeh’s family, friends, and all who love freedom and justice.

Hamas announced that Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in an airstrike on his residence in Tehran, a day after he participated in the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian.

Since its founding in 1987, Hamas leaders, both political and military, have been targets of assassination by Israel, both inside and outside Palestine. Prominent leaders such as Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi have been among those targeted.

In January of this year, Hamas announced the assassination of its deputy political bureau chief, Saleh al-Arouri, in a drone attack in Beirut. In January 2010, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, another senior Hamas figure, was assassinated in a hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
